Crime

7-Eleven employee, 24, who was left brain-dead after manager ‘sat on her’ has died.

In a deeply saddening turn of events, Jessica McLaughlin, a 24-year-old employee at a 7-Eleven store in Hollywood, California, has passed away following a violent altercation with a store manager.

What Happened?

On June 24, Jessica went to work expecting a normal shift. However, according to her family, things took a horrifying turn when an argument with a female manager escalated into a brutal physical confrontation.

Jessica’s brother, Sean McLaughlin, shared the heartbreaking details on GoFundMe — claiming the manager pulled Jessica’s hair, sat on her, and prevented her from breathing. Other coworkers reportedly tried to step in, but were attacked as well.

“She held her down, sat on top of her, and didn’t let her breathe,” Sean wrote. “When she finally got free, she collapsed. She wasn’t breathing.”

A Desperate Fight for Life

When the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrived at the scene, they found Jessica unconscious on the store floor. While some coworkers performed CPR, the alleged attacker reportedly ran to the back room to delete security footage before fleeing on a bicycle.

Jessica was placed on life support at a nearby hospital. For days, her family held on to hope, staying by her side — praying for a miracle.

Sadly, on July 2, after multiple medical opinions confirmed irreversible brain damage due to lack of oxygen, the family made the heartbreaking decision to remove life support.

Investigation and Response

According to CBS News, the LAPD has now launched a homicide investigation. They have retrieved video footage from the store but are not releasing it publicly at this time.

7-Eleven responded to the incident in a statement shared with UNILAD, saying:

“Our hearts are with those impacted during this difficult time. The suspect has been terminated, and we continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement in their investigation.”

A Life Cut Short

Jessica was described by loved ones as kind, bright, and full of promise. Her family, including her parents, siblings, boyfriend, and many friends, have been devastated by her loss.

Her GoFundMe page, originally set up to support her recovery, now serves as a memorial and a way for people to contribute toward justice and funeral expenses.
