Madelynn May, a 23-year-old OnlyFans model, has a story that sounds almost unbelievable: one puff of a joint mixed with weed and tobacco nearly cost her her life.
At just 16, Madelynn decided to try smoking with friends. What was supposed to be a casual experiment turned into a nightmare. “Right after inhaling, I couldn’t breathe,” she recalled. “I kept coughing until I passed out from lack of oxygen.”
Her friend’s mother quickly called emergency services, and Madelynn was placed on life support in the ambulance. “My lungs had completely failed,” she said. “Doctors were shocked. They found a severe fungal infection attacking my lungs and mucous membranes, but they didn’t know how it started.”
A Fight for Her Life
For the next four years, Madelynn’s life revolved around hospitals in Tennessee. She was diagnosed with respiratory failure, meaning her lungs couldn’t properly supply oxygen to her body. The fungal infection was so aggressive that doctors had to repeatedly clean her lungs.

“I basically had mold everywhere—in my lungs, ears, and sinuses,” she explained. For six months, she coughed up black phlegm, and even her cotton swabs would come out black. She relied on an oxygen tank to survive.
The Shocking Cause
At first, Madelynn didn’t realize smoking caused her illness. “When I woke up from being on life support, I’d completely forgotten about it,” she said. Later, when a doctor asked if she smoked, the memory came flooding back.

“They believe I inhaled fungal spores from the joint,” she shared. “That single puff changed everything. I will never touch smoke again.”
Turning Trauma into Awareness
Madelynn finally received the all-clear at 20. Since then, she’s been using her platform—where she now has over 600,000 Instagram followers and a successful OnlyFans career reportedly earning $2 million a year—to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking.

“Life has a strange way of working out,” she said. “If my story helps even one person think twice, it’s worth it.”
