Daylight Savings has come around once more, and it’s likely that it has thrown your sleep schedule a bit off-balance. Hopefully, it won’t take long for our bodies to adapt to the additional hour of daylight, but there might be other elements of your daily routine that are affecting your sleep more than you realize.

In addition to some of the commonly recognized factors like alcohol, caffeine, and smartphone usage, Martin Seeley, a sleep authority at MattressNextDay, has outlined how vaping might be influencing your sleep as you prepare for bed in the evening.

Dry Throat

There’s nothing worse than awakening with a mouth that resembles a desert, and Seeley has elaborated on how vaping could be contributing to this sensation.

The expert initially pointed out the effects that smoking can have on sleep, stating: “If you’re a smoker, not only does it affect your long-term health, but it may also lead to snoring. Cigarette and tobacco smoke irritate the airways and the throat which can lead to swelling. A build-up of catarrh obstructs not only the throat but the nasal passages which disrupts the airflow and causes the soft tissue to vibrate.”

Illustrating how vaping can produce “just as much irritation” as smoking, Seeley further stated: “In fact, the first controlled study examining vaping’s long-term effects was released last week, revealing that vaping may be more detrimental than smoking and cause even greater irritation.

“Vaping can result in throat dryness due to components like propylene glycol, which removes moisture.”
